EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. EMDR is helpful in healing from trauma and PTSD symptoms as well as other concerns such as anxiety, depression, OCD, grief and pain.  Rebecca is currently training to become Certified as an EMDR therapist.

Who is My Hero?

I was recently asked this question.  It made me pause to consider and I did not have a quick answer.  Later that day, I met with several new clients and couples.  And then the answer dawned on me!

My hero is anyone who has the courage to ask for help.  My hero is someone who agrees to meet with a complete stranger, trusting that person will listen to their story, and trusting they will find relief from pain, hurt and conflict.  It takes a courageous person to take the first step and meet with a therapist for the first time, not knowing what to expect and then to share things that, in some cases, are the worst about themselves.

I do not take that lightly.  It is a humbling experience to see this courage in people as I meet them for the first time.  I consider it an honor to hold a healing and sacred place for those who are seeking freedom from trauma, addictions, depression, anxiety, affairs and betrayals.
